Courtroom Survival Tactics

In today's fast paced society many Officer's make arrests, write citations, and believe that defendants will plead guilty, or that a District Attorney will handle their case if it moves into the County Court venue. Many Officer's come out of academies not prepared to write quality reports, gather relevant evidence, and present professional testimony in Court. Many have little or very limited contact with the Court System and have not been properly trained to prepare a case for court, testify, and/or interact with those in the court system. Preparing for suppression hearing, or drug cases requires Officers to have a vast knowledge of the Constitution and how it relates to seizing evidence, chain of custody procedures, interviewing suspects, and following the Rules of Criminal Procedure. Many cases can be lost on sloppy work, and/or taking shortcuts that can be exposed during Court Procedures. This class will address all of the above issues and enable Officers to acquire an understanding of how important all the little details are in working and prosecuting cases.
