Suicide Awareness and Intervention

Suicide rates in the United States has risen to the highest levels in nearly 30 years, with increases in every age group except the elderly. This training will introduce participants to recognizing the potential signs of suicide and the tools necessary to intervene in these instances. This course will discuss the myths of suicide and key indicators that a person may be contemplating suicide. It will discuss self-injury issues and the difference between self-injury and potential suicide. It will discuss PTSD and well as the many signs of depression. It will cover a few case studies and how we can learn from past incidents. It will discuss manner of death and the phenomenon of "Suicide by Cop." It will discuss screening individuals for suicide risk as well as active listening skills. Lastly, it will examine the procedure of a psychological autopsy.
